BRAC Bank has contributed two advanced Phaco machines to the Bangladesh Eye Trust Hospital (BETH) to make cataract surgeries more accessible for underprivileged individuals, as stated in press release.

The contribution was made under the bank’s flagship corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative, ‘Aporajeyo Ami,’ which is focused on health.

This contribution was formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by Meheriar M. Hasan, Chairperson of BRAC Bank, and Dr Niaz Abdur Rahman, Managing Director of Bangladesh Eye Hospital and Institute Ltd on October 6, 2024.

The Phaco machines are essential for efficient cataract removal, enabling the hospital to restore sight to thousands of individuals annually. By providing the hospital with state-of-the-art technology, BRAC Bank reaffirms its commitment to ensuring equitable access to healthcare, particularly for underserved populations.

Meheriar M. Hasan emphasized that this contribution reflects BRAC Bank’s dedication to improving community health.

“The bank hopes that providing advanced equipment to the Bangladesh Eye Trust Hospital will have a significant and lasting impact on those who lack access to critical eye care services”, he stated.

Dr Niaz Abdur Rahman expressed gratitude for the bank’s care for underprivileged people. He said, “These vital machines will enable BETH to conduct more surgeries, ensuring that more individuals can regain their vision and quality of life, especially those who would otherwise be unable to afford the necessary care.”

BRAC Bank’s ‘Aporajeyo Ami’ initiative is a significant CSR effort that promotes meaningful discussions about disability and disability inclusion within the health sector. It underscores the bank’s unwavering commitment to social welfare and dedication to building a more inclusive society.
