Global Electric Vehicle Sales Surge by 25% in 20241 min read
Global electric vehicles experienced a significant sales of 25% increase in 2024, with record-breaking numbers reaching 17.1 million battery electric vehicles sold worldwide stated in a report.
China solidified its position as the leading market, with 11 million vehicles sold, reflecting a 40% growth from the previous year. In contrast, sales in Europe declined slightly by 3%, totaling three million vehicles. While hybrids captured a larger share in Europe’s shrinking market, the end of government incentives in key countries like Germany impacted electric vehicle purchases. However, Britain emerged as Europe’s top market for electric vehicles, supported by sales targets for manufacturers.

In North America, electric vehicle sales rose modestly, climbing 9% to 1.8 million vehicles. Despite the growth, the high cost of electric vehicles remains a challenge, with government policies playing a critical role in shaping market dynamics.
Looking ahead, the discontinuation of sales incentives in the United States is expected to influence the 2025 market, while stricter emissions limits in Europe could boost electric vehicle adoption. However, European tariffs on imports may slow the influx of Chinese models, despite plans for local production by major Chinese manufacturers.
The global market reflects a blend of opportunities and challenges, driven by evolving regulations, consumer incentives, and competitive strategies from manufacturers worldwide.
