Bangladesh received USD 2,966.63 million in worker remittances in August 2026, up 3.78 percent from the USD 2,858.68 million received in July. The August inflow was 22.49 percent higher than the USD 2,421.89 million recorded in the same month a year earlier.
Remittance inflows remained strong during the first two months of the current financial year. Bangladeshi expatriates sent USD 5,825.31 million during July and August 2026, compared with USD 4,899.76 million during the corresponding period a year earlier. This represents an increase of USD 925.55 million, or approximately 18.89 percent year-on-year.
Private commercial banks remain the most popular choice for remittance transfers. They handled USD 2,234.53 million in August 2026. This amount gives them a 75.3 percent share of the entire market. Their remittance volume grew by 6.92 percent from July.
State Owned Commercial Banks managed USD 433.46 million for a 14.6 percent of the market share. Their total dropped by 1.03 percent from the previous month. This decrease was driven by Agrani Bank, whose receipts fell from $245.76M to $162.08M.
Specialized Banks processed USD 291.91 million. This volume equals a 9.8 percent share of the market. Bangladesh Krishi Bank receives the majority of the remittances in this specific category of banks. Specialized Banks fell 10.32 percent from July. This decline was the largest among all bank categories for August.
Foreign Commercial Banks handled a very small portion of the transfers. They processed USD 6.74 million for a 0.23 percent market share. This category actually grew the fastest at 26.69 percent from July. Standard Chartered Bank drove this specific increase. Private banks currently lead the way in bringing expatriate earnings safely back to Bangladesh.

Private commercial banks processed the highest volume of remittances in August 2026 with a 6.92 percent increase to 2,234.53 million dollars alongside a 26.69 percent growth for foreign commercial banks. State-owned commercial banks and specialized banks recorded lower inflows during the same period with month-over-month declines of 1.03 percent and 10.32 percent.

Islami Bank Bangladesh PLC remained the largest remittance-receiving bank in August 2026, recording USD 550.89 million, up 21.67 percent from the previous month. The amount accounted for nearly one-fifth of Bangladesh’s total remittance inflows during the month.
Bangladesh Krishi Bank and BRAC Bank PLC ranked second and third, receiving USD 291.91 million and USD 252.81 million, respectively. Their inflows declined 10.32 percent and 6.48 percent month-on-month. Trust Bank PLC received USD 211.49 million, down 1.63 percent, while Agrani Bank PLC rounded out the top five with USD 162.08 million, marking the steepest decline among the leading banks at 34.05 percent.
Dutch-Bangla Bank PLC recorded USD 156.75 million, up 56.25 percent month-on-month, followed by Dhaka Bank PLC at USD 148.43 million, which registered a 45.75 percent increase. Sonali Bank PLC and City Bank PLC received USD 139.91 million and USD 135.25 million, respectively, with their inflows rising 12.79 percent and 12.18 percent.
Pubali Bank PLC recorded the strongest growth among the top ten, with remittance receipts surging 186.10 percent month-on-month to USD 94.93 million.

Saudi Arabia remained Bangladesh’s largest source of remittances during July–August 2026, sending USD 1,145.82 million, followed by the UK with USD 854.83 million. The US and UAE ranked third and fourth with USD 539.59 million and USD 505.08 million, respectively.
Outside the top ten, Bahrain’s remittances rose to USD 64.41 million in August from USD 43.86 million in July, while South Africa’s remittances increased to USD 47.02 million from USD 36.54 million. The Republic of Korea also rose to USD 40.28 million from USD 27.18 million. All other countries collectively contributed USD 112.63 million during July–August 2026.
