Bangladesh Earned 4.42 Billion Dollars from Exports in August 2026

Export earnings for Bangladesh reached USD 4,429.45 million in August 2026. This performance secured a 13.14 percent growth compared to the same month last year. Local exporters shipped goods worth USD 3,915.00 million in August 2025. 

The monthly earnings experienced a pullback when compared to July 2026. The total fell by 6.30 percent from the USD 4,727.45 million recorded in the previous month. 

The broader picture for the new financial year remains positive for Bangladesh. Bangladeshโ€™s export earnings reached USD 9,156.90 million during Julyโ€“August 2026, up 5.43 percent from the USD 8,685.59 million recorded during the corresponding period a year earlier.

How Export Earnings varied by Product Categories 

Readymade garments remained Bangladeshโ€™s largest export category in August 2026, generating USD 3,608.89 million, up 13.92 percent from August 2025. However, earnings declined 7.15 percent from USD 3,886.72 million in July 2026.

Knitwear accounted for USD 2,034.70 million of the August total, while woven garments contributed USD 1,574.19 million. Both segments recorded month-on-month declines, with woven garment exports falling more sharply than knitwear from their July levels.

Leather and leather products managed USD 126.57 million, growing 24.85% YoY. However,  the export volume experienced a 3.35 percent drop from July,2026. Leather footwear remained the largest contributor, generating USD 73.41 million.

Jute and jute goods processed USD 77.17 million. This export group experienced a 22.26 percent growth from the previous year. Their monthly volume declined by 9.59 percent from July. Jute yarn and twine dominated the segment at USD 49.14 million. Raw jute dropped to USD 8.67 million. This specific decline was the largest monthly drop within the group at 46.15 percent.

Home textile secured USD 76.69 million for an 8.11 percent yearly increase, up from USD 70.94 million in August 2025. Bed kitchen and toilet linen generated USD 36.90 million, though it slipped 2.61 percent year-on-year. New rags and scrap twine grew the fastest within the category to reach USD 14.58 million, a 32.91 percent year-on-year increase. Tents brought in USD 8.66 million, up 12.03 percent year-on-year despite a sharp 28.84 percent month-on-month drop. 

Agricultural products handled a smaller portion of the growth. They generated USD 76.44 million. This category actually dropped by 9.18 percent from the previous year, down from USD 84.17 million in August 2025. The decline was driven by fruits and tobacco, with fruits falling 70.70 percent year-on-year to USD 2.57 million and tobacco down 66.56 percent to USD 8.07 million. Smaller agricultural segments like oil-cake and the unclassified others category posted positive gains, with oil-cake rising more than five-fold to USD 4.31 million and the others category up 87.51 percent to USD 18.32 million.

Readymade garments processed the highest volume of exports in August 2026 with a 13.92 percent yearly increase to USD 3,608.89 million dollars. Leather products and jute goods recorded strong yearly growth during the same period. But all these five top categories experienced month-over-month declines from July 2026. Four of the top five product categories posted year-on-year growth in August 2026; Agricultural Products was the sole exception.

Several product categories recorded notable yearly declines during the July and August period. Ships and floating structures posted the steepest fall by dropping to zero exports from USD 1.57 million a year earlier. Cement and stone products declined 49.69 percent to USD 1.64 million. Paper products contracted 22.80 percent to USD 35.76 million. Wood products fell 19.70 percent to USD 0.53 million. Cotton products softened by 13.02 percent to USD 82.24 million. These specific declines contrast with the broader export basket growth for Bangladesh.
