BRAC Bank Board has welcomed Dr Mohammad Abdur Razzaque as an Independent Director as stated in the Press release.
Welcoming Dr Razzaque to the Board, Meheriar M. Dr Razzaque’s extensive experience in research, development, education, and policymaking will bring valuable perspectives to our Board and help shape the Bank’s strategic direction. Dr Razzaque brings extensive national and international experience in economics, research, development, and public policy, which will help steer BRAC Bank toward new heights in its journey of growth and excellence.
Dr Razzaque is an economist specialising in international trade, development and public policy, with extensive senior leadership and management experience both at home and abroad. He currently serves as Chairman of Research and Policy Integration for Development (RAPID), a Dhaka-based think tank. He is also a Director at the Policy Research Institute of Bangladesh (PRI).
He held various senior positions for many years at the Commonwealth Secretariat in London, including Head of International Trade Policy, where he led the Commonwealth’s work on trade policy and global advocacy. Before that, he taught in the Department of Economics at the University of Dhaka.
He has led and managed numerous multi-country studies involving sub-Saharan African, South Asian, Caribbean and Pacific economies, while maintaining an extensive programme of research, policy analysis and capacity-building activities focused on Bangladesh.
Dr Razzaque has extensive experience working with senior government officials across many countries. On several occasions, he has made technical presentations before the G20 Development Working Group. He has also been called to provide evidence before Committees of both the House of Lords and the House of Commons of the UK Parliament.
He is also an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Development Studies at the University of Dhaka. Dr Razzaque holds a PhD from the University of Sussex, UK, and a Master of Social Science (MSS) in Economics from the University of Dhaka. He has authored several books, journal articles, and policy papers.
