Dhaka Bank PLC has announced the re-election of Abdul Hai Sarker as the chairman of its Board of Directors for an additional two-year term. Sarker, the founder chairman of the bank, brings a wealth of executive leadership experience and an enduring commitment to the institution’s strategic growth as stated in the Press Release.
After completing his post-graduation from the University of Dhaka in 1970, Sarker entered international trade and rapidly established himself as a distinguished industrialist. Through his entrepreneurial vision and dedicated leadership, he successfully built the Purbani Group into one of Bangladeshโs leading business conglomerates.
In addition to his foundational role at Dhaka Bank, Sarker serves as the chairman of the Bangladesh Association of Banks (BAB). His extensive career includes tenures as a director of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) and as president of the Bangladesh Textile Mills Association (BTMA) for four consecutive terms. He is also a former chairman of the Board of Trustees of Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB), a founding member of the Board of Trustees for the Bangladesh Enterprise Institute (BEI), and previously served as an associate director of the International Cotton Association in Liverpool, United Kingdom.
Beyond his corporate achievements, Sarker is highly regarded for his contributions to social welfare and community development, earning widespread recognition across numerous organizations. In acknowledgment of his profound impact on the nation’s trade and industrial sectors, the Government of Bangladesh has conferred upon him the prestigious Commercially Important Person (CIP) status.
