A mutual fund launched with Tk50 crore has now grown into a Tk500 crore-plus portfolio in just over three years. UCB Income Plus Fund, an open-ended fixed-income mutual fund managed by UCB Asset Management, has crossed the Tk500 crore mark, marking a tenfold increase in assets since its launch in July 2023
The fund reached the milestone within three years and three months, a pace UCB Asset Management described as rare in Bangladesh’s mutual fund industry over the past 15 years. The growth also places UCB Income Plus Fund among the country’s largest mutual funds managed by a private asset manager. According to the company, only two open-ended funds managed by the Investment Corporation of Bangladesh currently have higher assets under management.

The milestone comes as Bangladesh’s mutual fund industry continues to navigate investor confidence, changing interest rates and evolving expectations around investment products. UCB Asset Management attributed the fund’s expansion primarily to growing investor confidence in open-ended mutual funds and the credibility of professional asset management. Unlike closed-end funds, open-ended mutual funds allow investors to buy and redeem units based on the fund’s applicable pricing mechanism, making them a more flexible investment option. For a fixed-income fund such as UCB Income Plus, managing this growing pool of capital also means navigating interest-rate movements while valuing the portfolio on a mark-to-market basis.
UCB Asset Management, established in 2020, described the achievement as a collective effort involving investors, employees, regulators and other asset managers. The company also highlighted the challenges of managing a rapidly expanding fixed-income portfolio through a volatile interest-rate cycle, making continued investor participation particularly important to the fund’s growth. The Tk500 crore milestone was marked at an event attended by UCB PLC Chairman Sharif Zahir, Chief Executive Officer Mohammad Mamdudur Rashid, UCB Asset Management Chairman Nabil Mustafizur Rahman, and Managing Director and CEO Shekh Mohammad Rashedul Hasan, alongside members of UCB PLC’s board and senior management as stated in TBS
For UCB Asset Management, the milestone represents more than a larger asset base. It offers a signal that open-ended mutual funds can attract substantial capital when investors find the combination of accessibility, professional management and perceived credibility compelling. As Bangladesh’s investment landscape becomes increasingly digital and investor preferences evolve, such growth could also encourage asset managers to develop more accessible products for retail investors.
