Benedicte Schilbred Fasmer, President and CEO of Telenor Group, today met with Prime Minister Tarique Rahman during her visit to Bangladesh to reaffirm Telenor’s continued commitment to supporting Bangladesh’s digital development as stated in the Press Release.
The Telenor delegation included Yasir Azman, Chief Executive Officer of Grameenphone, and senior representatives from Telenor and Grameenphone.
During the meeting, Benedicte Schilbred Fasmer highlighted Telenor’s sustained presence in Bangladesh over nearly three decades. The discussions reflected a shared confidence in Bangladesh’s strong fundamentals for a digitally driven future, supported by a young population, rapid digital adoption, and a growing innovation ecosystem.
Benedicte Schilbred Fasmer also underlined Bangladesh’s strategic importance to Telenor in Asia and Telenor’s role as a long‑term partner to the country’s digital transformation. Telenor reiterated its commitment to expanding connectivity, strengthening digital inclusion, and investing in skills and capabilities that support sustainable economic growth.
Discussions centred on the importance of equipping young Bangladeshis with future‑ready skills, including in Artificial Intelligence (AI), to increase access to skilled employment and support the Government’s broader development ambitions, including its vision for a USD 1 trillion economy by 2034.
In line with their shared purpose of building a safer and smarter tomorrow, Telenor and Grameenphone reaffirmed their confidence in Bangladesh’s long‑term potential and their intention to continue contributing to the country’s digital journey. The discussions also underscored the importance of a predictable, investment‑friendly regulatory and policy environment to accelerate sustainable progress and unlock the full value of digital connectivity for society.
