Berger Paints Bangladesh Ventures into Packaging with New Subsidiary
Berger Paints Bangladesh, the country’s leading multinational coatings manufacturer, is expanding its business by stepping into the packaging sector through the establishment of a new subsidiary. The company’s board approved this strategic move in a meeting held on 30 June, as disclosed in a price-sensitive statement on its website.
The new subsidiary will be named Jenson and Nicholson Packaging Limited (JNPL). Berger Paints Bangladesh will hold a 51% equity stake in JNPL by investing Tk5.10 crore, while its existing fully owned subsidiary, Jenson and Nicholson (Bangladesh) Limited, will contribute Tk4.90 crore for the remaining 49% stake stated in a report.
JNPL plans to set up a manufacturing facility at the National Special Economic Zone, where it will produce various plastic-based packaging products. To facilitate this, Berger’s board has approved amendments to its land lease agreement with the Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (Beza). Of the total 39.41 acres currently leased from Beza, 1.16 acres will be allocated to JNPL, while Berger will retain 38.25 acres.
Currently, Jenson and Nicholson (Bangladesh) produces metal containers for Berger and commercial sale. The addition of plastic packaging production will enhance the company’s supply chain integration and cost efficiency.
