Bangladesh’s Mahdia Rahman Wins Judges’ Choice Award at Global AYDA Awards 2024/2025

Mahdia Rahman from Bangladesh’s Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology won the Judges’ Choice award in the Interior Design Category at the AYDA Awards 2024 global finale. Now in its 17th year, the AYDA Awards which is hosted as part of Nippon Paint’s Global Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Program, welcomed over 8,000 student submissions from 16 countries and regions, each offering bold, thoughtful interpretations of this year’s evocative theme: CONVERGE: Glocal Design Solutions, which encourages designers to adopt a global mindset when addressing local social, urban, and environmental challenges.

In the 2024 national final of the AYDA Awards, Md Munsurun Nabi emerged as the winner in the Architecture Category, while Mahdia Rahman secured the win in the Interior Design Category. Then they went on to represent Bangladesh as international finalists in Tokyo, Japan.

Mahdia’s award-winning project, “Stories Unfold: The Tale of a Single Mother,” reimagines the traditional Bangladeshi tea stall into a safe, empowering, and multifunctional space for single mothers to work and care for their children. This innovative design addresses the social and spatial neglect faced by these women, providing a secure environment free from harassment.

“We are immensely proud of Mahdia Rahman, who has proudly represented Bangladesh at this event,” said Mr. Robin Miah, Marketing Manager. “The AYDA Awards celebrates designers who use their craft to address current issues and make a difference, shaping a better future.”

Other sub-category winners received cash prizes, with Judges’ Choice and Honorary Mention recipients receiving USD 500. The AYDA Awards, formerly known as the Asia Young Designer Awards, is a no-entry-fee program by Nippon Paint that fosters emerging talent through mentorship and cross-cultural exchange.

The AYDA Awards 2025/2026 is going to open soon for submissions, focusing on “CONVERGE: Crafting Cultural Legacies.” For more information, visit: https://www.nipponpaint.com.bd/ayda/winners or you can email on Email: [email protected]
