In a landmark development for South Asian trade, the direct shipping route between Bangladesh and Pakistan (Bangladesh-Pakistan), launched in October, is already delivering impressive results. Over 1,000 containers have been transported since its inception, dramatically improving efficiency and regional connectivity stated in a report, according to global port operator DP World.

This pioneering route has cut transit times by more than 50%, eliminating the need for transshipment and streamlining the flow of goods between the two nations. The initiative, spearheaded by Dubai-based DP World in partnership with NLC, is part of a larger service network spanning six countries. The route includes stops at Port Klang (Malaysia), Jebel Ali (UAE), Karachi (Pakistan), Chittagong (Bangladesh), Belawan (Indonesia), and Mundra (India).

With its robust connectivity to regional and global trade networks, the service offers businesses unprecedented access to DP World’s expansive global network. The maiden voyage, launched on 30 October, set the tone by successfully transporting 304 containers directly from Karachi to Chittagong.

This bold initiative is not only a boost for Bangladesh-Pakistan trade but also a catalyst for broader regional collaboration. By bridging key trade hubs, the route underscores the growing importance of direct shipping in a rapidly evolving global trade landscape.
