Bangladesh has solidified its standing as a leader in environmentally conscious apparel manufacturing, boasting LEED certification from the United States Green Building Council (USGBC) for 204 factories in the sector.

The most recent addition to this esteemed list is “Integra Dresses Limited” in Gazipur, securing green building certification in the gold category with an impressive score of 99 out of 110 points, as reported by the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA).

In the year 2022 alone, Bangladesh achieved an impressive total of 27 green building certifications, with a notable 13 of them attaining the highest distinction, the platinum category, according to the USGBC. Out of the 204 certified factories, 74 have earned platinum ratings, 116 have secured gold ratings, and the remaining facilities have received other commendable ratings. Additionally, a promising 500 factories are currently in the pipeline to undergo the rigorous process of obtaining LEED certification from the USGBC.

On a global scale, Bangladesh shines with 54 of the top 100 highest-rated LEED green factories, a testament to the nation’s steadfast commitment to sustainability. Impressively, 9 out of the top 10 and 18 out of the top 20 LEED-certified factories worldwide are located within Bangladesh. Notably, the world’s highest-scoring factory, achieving an outstanding score of 104, proudly calls Bangladesh home.

The USGBC evaluates and recognizes factories based on a comprehensive set of criteria, including transformative performance, energy efficiency, water conservation, and waste management. Factories demonstrating exceptional commitment and performance are honored with platinum ratings, followed by gold and silver distinctions.

This remarkable achievement underscores Bangladesh’s unwavering dedication to sustainable practices in the apparel industry, positioning the nation as a shining example on the global stage. As the industry continues to evolve, Bangladesh’s strides in green manufacturing serve as a testament to its commitment to environmental stewardship and responsible business practices.
