With local customers becoming more fond of cakes, Akij Bakers Ltd (ABL) recently announced its debut in the category in order to woo shoppers and capture the market. With a Tk 1,200 crore investment, ABL aspires to be the market leader by offering high-quality cakes to consumers under the brand “Funtastic” cake.

At present, Bangladesh produces around 475,000 tonnes of biscuits each year, and the local biscuit business is increasing at a rate of 12-15 percent per year, according to industry sources.

Starting in 2020 with the biscuit brand “Bakerman’s,” ABL developed a new facility in Dhaka’s Tongi to produce bakery goods for the domestic market, which is increasing at a rate of up to 15% per year due to people’s rising income and need for comfort.

According to industry experts, the bakery business is booming as huge corporations make significant investments in the biscuit industry. Furthermore, they incorporated contemporary machines to suit the need for safe food from customers.

“We have remained uncompromising in our position regarding quality since the beginning. Using the best ingredients was and is our first priority. All these machines can produce the maximum number of products of various flavors. Within a few days of its launch, Akij Bakers reached the second position in cake sales in Bangladesh.”

ABL’s chief marketing officer, Shafiqul Islam Tushar, stated that the brand quickly captured the hearts of consumers after debuting its cakes. This was a wonderful surprise for them as they did not foresee such rapid development, he continued. According to him, ABL rapidly had a very positive client reaction due to the high quality of its products.

ABL also claimed to have the greatest cake production capacity in Bangladesh. Besides, the company produces bread, buns, and wafers in addition to biscuits and cakes to meet the needs of a diverse consumer base.
