Twitter is testing new labels on tweets with potential misinformation

The labels at current stage of developments are,

  • Get the latest The label will apply to news topics providing users with relevant sources to authoritative info.
  • Stay informed This label will also apply to evolving news topics such as news related to COVID-19, with links to relevant key authoritative sources.
  • Misleading – This label would flag tweets that may include questionable claims and provide links to official sources.

The first two labels may be activated with certain keywords included in the tweets with the last one possibly requiring to be fact checked by Twitter’s moderation team.

The new update could be an effective way to provide and validate information around frequently evolving news stories. However users may see their timelines cluttered with labels depending on how frequent the labels are applied.
