8 Capital Market Stakeholders Honored By BSEC With  Golden Jubilee Award For 2023

The Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) honored eight institutions with the ‘Independence Golden Jubilee Awards’ for their exemplary performance as stakeholders in the capital market over the past year.

The awards were distributed by Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Speaker Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury during a ceremony held at the Pan Pacific Sonargoan Hotel in Dhaka on Wednesday.

The event saw the presence of notable figures including Waseqa Ayesha Khan, the State Minister of the Ministry of Finance, who attended as a special guest. The ceremony was chaired by BSEC Chairman, Professor Shibli Rubayat Ul Islam, with Abdur Rahman Khan, Secretary of the Financial Institutions Division of the Ministry of Finance, also in attendance.

The awards recognized intermediary organizations across three categories: ‘Stock Brokers and Dealers’, ‘Merchant Bankers’, and ‘Asset Management Companies’. IDLC Securities Limited topped the ‘Stock Brokers and Dealers’ category, followed by BRAC EPL Stock Brokerage Ltd and Shanta Securities Limited. In the ‘Merchant Bankers’ category, Prime Bank Investment Limited took the lead, with Islami Bank Capital Management Limited and Southeast Bank Capital Services Ltd finishing second and third, respectively. ACACIA SRIM Ltd claimed the top spot in the ‘Asset Management Companies’ category, with ICB Asset Management Company Ltd coming in second.

Additionally, the BSEC presented the Shuddhachar Award for 2022-2023 to its officials/employees in three different grades. Sujan Alam, an office assistant, won in the 17th to 20th grade category; Somir Ghosh, a personal officer, secured the award for the 10th to 16th grade category; and Mohammad Rakibur Rahman, an Additional Director, received the award for the 2nd to 9th Grade category.

The event also included a panel discussion titled ‘Women in the Capital Market’, moderated by actress Shomi Kaiser, aimed at highlighting and encouraging the role and participation of women in the financial sector and capital markets.
