
Uber’s Economic Impact In Bangladesh: BDT 55 Billion Contribution In 20241 min read
Uber, Bangladesh’s leading ridesharing platform, released its 2024 Economic Impact Report, highlighting its substantial contribution to the country’s economy. The event was attended by Md. Ehsanul Hoque, Senior Secretary of the Road Transport and Highways Division, and Mohammed Yasin, BRTA Chairman reportedly.
Compiled by Public First, the report reveals that Uber generated BDT 55 billion in economic activity in 2024. Among its services, Moto and Auto contributed BDT 9.2 billion, meeting the growing demand for cost-effective last-mile connectivity. Additionally, Uber improved commuter efficiency, with 82% of riders using the platform for work-related travel, saving approximately 1.1 million hours annually – equivalent to BDT 940 million.

The report’s key findings were presented by Amy Price, Director and Head of Practice for Tech, Media, and Telecom at Public First. Following the presentation, a panel discussion featuring policymakers and industry leaders took place. Panelists included Sitangshu Shekhar Biswas, Director of BRTA; Ms. Fahmida Khatun, Executive Director of CPD; Shams Zaman, Country Managing Partner at PwC Bangladesh; and Nasheed Ferdous Kamal, Country Head of Uber Bangladesh.
The discussion focused on the future of mobility in Bangladesh, addressing opportunities and challenges in building a resilient transportation system that adapts to the nation’s evolving political, economic, and technological landscape.
