Proposed National Budget 2024-2025: Mobile Talk Time Rate Set to Increase1 min read

The rate of mobile talk time is likely to increase in the proposed national budget for the 2024-25 fiscal year.

In the new budget, Finance Minister Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali has proposed a 5% increase in value-added tax (VAT) on mobile phone calls. Currently, a 15% VAT is levied on talk time services. With the proposed supplementary duty of 5%, the cost of mobile phone calls will further increase.

Previously, for every Tk100 recharge, users received Tk75 as talk time, while the government collected about Tk25 through VAT, supplementary duty, and surcharges. Under the new proposal, the government’s share will increase to Tk28.

Finance Minister Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali presented the proposed budget for the 2024-2025 fiscal year, totaling Tk797,000 crore (Tk7.97 trillion), in parliament on Thursday. This is his first budget presentation and the first budget following the reelection of the Awami League government in January.
