MetLife Foundation, in partnership with Micro Industries Development Assistance and Services (MIDAS), has launched a two-year skills development initiative to train 500 youth in mobile repairing and entrepreneurship in Dhaka and Chattogram as stated in the Press Release.

The program will equip participants with practical, market-relevant skills in mobile phone repairing and maintenance. This will enable them to pursue self-employment and build sustainable livelihoods in a growing digital economy.

With over 187 million mobile subscribers in Bangladesh and nearly 75 percent of households owning smartphones, the mobile repairing sector offers strong income opportunities. The initiative aims to bridge the skills gap and connect young people to these opportunities.

This initiative reflects MetLife Foundation’s commitment to improving economic empowerment and resilience in Bangladesh by supporting skills development aligned with market demand.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Ala Ahmad, Chief Executive Officer of MetLife Bangladesh, said: “Financial security begins with economic opportunity. This partnership with MIDAS represents a meaningful step toward empowering young people with practical and market-relevant skills. By investing in their potential, MetLife Foundation is helping to create pathways for sustainable income, entrepreneurship, and long-term resilience in Bangladesh.”

Parveen Mahmud, Chairman of MIDAS, added, “We are proud to collaborate with MetLife Foundation on this impactful initiative. By combining our local expertise with global support, we can equip young people with the skills and confidence needed to succeed in today’s economy. This program will not only create employment opportunities but also contribute to building a more inclusive and resilient entrepreneurial ecosystem in Bangladesh.”

Established in 1982, MIDAS is a leading private sector development organization dedicated to promoting micro, small, and medium enterprises. Through its technical, financial, and capacity-building services, MIDAS has played a key role in fostering entrepreneurship and job creation across Bangladesh.

MetLife Foundation continues to support financial resilience for individuals and families in Bangladesh. Through initiatives like this, it reinforces its commitment to creating economic opportunities and supporting a more inclusive and resilient society.
