Meta To Begin Layoffs Monday While Fast-Tracking AI Hiring1 min read

Meta Platforms is set to initiate company-wide layoffs next Monday, marking another wave of workforce reductions as the tech giant shifts its focus toward high-priority roles. According to internal memos seen by Reuters, employees in most countries, including the U.S., will receive termination notices starting at 5 a.m. local time.

However, staff in Germany, France, Italy, and the Netherlands would be excluded due to local labor laws, while those in more than a dozen countries across Europe, Asia, and Africa will be notified between February 11 and 18, reportedly.

Labeled as “performance terminations” by Meta’s Head of People, Janelle Gale, the cuts are part of a previously announced plan to trim 5% of the company’s lowest performers. Unlike previous rounds, Meta will keep its offices open on Monday and has opted not to issue further updates regarding the layoffs.

Meanwhile, the company is accelerating the hiring process for machine learning engineers and other critical roles. In a separate memo, VP of Engineering for Monetization Peng Fan outlined plans for a fast-tracked recruitment drive running from February 11 to March 13. As Meta restructures, it remains focused on investing in AI-driven innovation while tightening its workforce. A company spokesperson declined to comment on the internal communications.
