Instagram Is Getting Rid Of Swipe-Up Links

Instagram is shutting down the swipe-up link feature in Instagram stories on 30th August. The feature was one of the most popular features on the app that allowed businesses and content creators to direct their Instagram followers to a website. It was highly effective to convert followers into website viewers or buyers.

Instead of the swipe-up link feature, users will have the new Link sticker. The sticker which was in the testing phase from June’21 with selected users will be rolled out to maximum users on 30th August.

Instagram plans to first give the features to the users having access to the swipe-up links. The new link sticker offers greater control over Instagram stories. Like polls & questions, creators will have toggle styling, resizing, and place it anywhere option. Viewers will also be able to react and reply to posts that have link stickers attached. That was not possible with the swipe-up link.

The social media giant has been testing the link feature for all users since June, according to The Verge. Vishal Shah, Instagram’s head of product, told The Verge that the test was to see how people took advantage of the link feature, specifically looking out for misinformation or spam.

“That is the sort of future system we would like to get to,” he said. “And that’s what we hope to roll out if we’re able to make this work.”
