Google’s Bard Chatbot Globally Updated with Gemini Pro2 min read
In a significant stride toward global conversational AI excellence, Google proudly announces the integration of its Bard chatbot with the advanced Gemini Pro model, now available in over 230 countries and supporting more than 40 languages. Initially powered by LaMDA and later updated with PaLM 2, Bard has undergone transformative iterations to enhance user experience. The recent introduction of Gemini Pro in English conversations marked a notable improvement in content understanding, summarization, reasoning, brainstorming, writing, and planning.
Google’s commitment to linguistic diversity is evident as Bard’s language support now extends beyond English to include Arabic, Chinese, Dutch, French, German, Hindi, Japanese, Portuguese, Spanish, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and more. In December, Google launched its generative AI models, including the flagship Gemini Ultra, “lite” Gemini Pro, and Gemini Nano, catering to various device capabilities. While specific improvements from Gemini Pro weren’t quantified, Google assures users of a more refined chatbot experience.
In September, Google introduced the “Double check” feature, utilizing Google Search to validate Bard-generated results, initially available in English. Now, this feature expands its linguistic reach, supporting more than 40 languages. A noteworthy addition to Bard’s capabilities is image generation through the Imagen 2 model, released in December. Users can prompt image creation by specifying queries like “create an image of a futuristic car” within the chatbot interface.
Images generated by Bard will carry a SynthID digital watermark, developed by DeepMind, embedded in pixels. Google provides tools for users to identify these watermarked images. Bard’s influence extends beyond chat interactions, as Google integrated its AI capabilities into Google Assistant in October. This integration enables users to seamlessly perform tasks such as trip planning and creating grocery lists.
In November, Google opened up Bard to English-speaking teenagers with content safety restrictions, ensuring the generation of safe and appropriate content. Google’s continuous advancements in Bard’s capabilities underscore the tech giant’s commitment to revolutionizing conversational AI on a global scale, offering users a more sophisticated and versatile experience.
