Boosting Bilateral Trade Bangladesh-Pakistan Trade: Challenges and Opportunities
Share

Bilateral trade between Bangladesh and Pakistan has yet to reach its full potential due to challenges such as non-tariff barriers, tariff disparities, and limited logistical connectivity. Trade volumes remain modest, highlighting the need for enhanced collaboration and strategic initiatives stated in a report.

Improving connectivity through direct flights and shipping routes could facilitate smoother trade between the two nations. Exploring options like free trade or preferential trade agreements may further unlock opportunities for bilateral trade growth.

Promising sectors for collaboration include agriculture, cement clinkers, leather goods, surgical instruments, chemicals, IT, and public health management. Diversifying trade beyond traditional sectors, such as textiles and garments, could also drive economic benefits.

Opportunities exist for Bangladeshi exporters to leverage Pakistan as a corridor for reaching other markets, while investments in logistics infrastructure would expedite trade. Collaborative efforts in information technology, mobile financing, and joint investments in hi-tech parks could significantly strengthen ties.

With continued growth and cooperation, bilateral trade could achieve remarkable progress in the coming years.
