Bangladesh Bank Opens Up to Journalists Says Deputy Governor1 min read

Bangladesh Bank recently announced the removal of entry restrictions for journalists at its headquarters, marking a significant shift in its approach to media relations. Deputy Governor Kazi Sayedur Rahman made the announcement during a meeting with the Economic Reporters’ Forum (ERF) at the central bank’s office in Dhaka’s Motijheel district.

The meeting, led by ERF President Refayet Ullah Mirdha, focused on key issues within the banking sector. Mirdha highlighted the urgent need for the central bank to tackle defaulted loans and take decisive action against money laundering and corruption in the financial system. The decision to open up the bank’s headquarters to journalists is seen as a step towards greater transparency and improved relations with the media. However, Bangladesh Bank Governor Abdul Rouf Talukder was notably absent from the meeting.

The move is expected to enhance the flow of information and scrutiny in the banking sector, contributing to more informed public discourse and oversight.
