The Bangladesh Bank (BB) has identified a mismatch of Tk 82.44 lakh between the cash held in the vault of BRAC Bank’s Chokoria branch in Cox’s Bazar and the amount recorded in its books, stated in a report.

The irregularity was discovered during a central bank inspection initiated on December 22, 2024, based on BRAC Bank’s financial statement as of June 30, 2024.

According to a BB document, the inspection team detected the discrepancy on December 19, 2024, after the close of banking hours, on the eve of the inspection.

The central bank categorized the mismatch as a severe form of banking irregularity.

In response, the BB sent a letter to the chairman of BRAC Bank on December 22, 2024, notifying them of the issue.

The letter instructed the bank to take necessary steps to address the discrepancy and initiate legal actions against the officials responsible.

Additionally, the BB required the bank to submit a detailed report on the measures taken within 10 working days of the letter’s issuance.
