Apple To Bring Live Translation To AirPods, Report Says1 min read
Apple is gearing up to introduce live translation capabilities to its AirPods, according to a recent Bloomberg report. The highly anticipated feature, expected to debut with iOS 19, will allow users to engage in real-time translated conversations, bringing AirPods closer to the realm of AI-powered communication, reportedly.
While Apple has been a late entrant in this space, the move signals its intent to catch up with competitors. Google pioneered live translation in 2017 with its Pixel Buds and later expanded the feature to the Pixel Buds Pro in 2022. Other tech companies, including Meta and Humane, have also experimented with similar real-time translation tools, though with mixed success.

As per Bloomberg, Apple’s approach will allow spoken language to be instantly translated and played directly into the user’s AirPods. For example, if a Spanish speaker is talking to an English speaker, the English listener will hear a real-time translation in their AirPods. When the English speaker replies, their iPhone will play the Spanish translation through its speakers, creating a seamless multilingual conversation experience.
Apple has not officially confirmed this feature, but the report surfaces amid delays in the company’s AI-enhanced Siri, which Apple recently acknowledged would take longer than expected to roll out. Additionally, Apple is rumored to be working on a major redesign of iOS, iPadOS, and macOS, aligning with its broader push into AI-driven software enhancements.
If Apple delivers on this innovation, AirPods could soon become more than just a listening device – transforming into a powerful real-time communication tool for a multilingual world.
