LinkedIn is rolling out its top-of-feed news banner feature to additional regions, aiming to encourage more timely and topical interactions among its users. Initially launched in early 2025 across select markets, the feature presents a rotating carousel of trending headlines, curated by LinkedIn’s editorial team. By tapping on any of these headlines, users are directed to a hub containing related news articles and user posts on the topic, fostering more conversation and professional engagement around current events reportedly.

The goal behind this initiative is to prompt users to actively comment on important business developments, enhancing their visibility on the platform while simultaneously driving more engagement. The positive response so far has led LinkedIn to extend access to this feature beyond its initial markets.

Currently, the news banner is available to users in the U.S., Canada, India, the U.K., and Australia. When the feature first launched, only the first three countries had access. The recent expansion to the U.K. and Australia reflects LinkedIn’s confidence in the feature’s effectiveness in encouraging active participation around trending topics.

This addition gives users more opportunities to stay informed about major news in the professional world and voice their insights within their networks. The feature also includes a simple control option – users who find it disruptive can remove the banner from their feed for a 24-hour period by tapping the close button.

LinkedIn has reported significant growth in engagement, with shifts in online professional interactions, particularly after changes at platform X (formerly Twitter), contributing to increased activity. Video content has also seen rising popularity on LinkedIn, further amplifying user involvement.

The news banner appears to be a strategic move to tap into these trends, placing relevant updates prominently at the top of the feed instead of relying solely on LinkedIn’s standard algorithm — which is often criticized for showing outdated content to prioritize in-network visibility.

By offering a consistent source of current events, the banner helps fill a gap in real-time news coverage, potentially becoming a vital tool for sparking conversation and maintaining user attention in the fast-moving world of professional networking.
