Spartans’ Communication Club of the University of Dhaka recently concluded its flagship business case competition, Bakeman’s Presents Sellsation 2023, cosponsored by Daraz and Agrani Bank Limited, at the Ascott Palace Dhaka on Saturday, March 18.

Leading up to the competition, the club conducted roadshows across universities in Dhaka, Chattogram, Rajshahi, Khulna, and Sylhet. Hundreds of teams from all over the nation registered for the competition. Among them, only 30 progressed to the 2nd – instant case – round, held in a very engaging atmosphere at the University of Dhaka premises.

Sellsation found its finalists for this year as 6 teams came through following a further 3rd – surprise – round where the teams made their sales pitches to the judges, and for which 15 teams had qualified. The teams, as well as the judges, have expressed their contentment regarding how the event was organized on social media.

As the 6 remaining teams battled it out in the final round, Team Khichuri – featuring Mohtasim Bin Habib, Shubhashish Chakraborty, Mashrif Hasan Adib, and Abir Ershad – came out as the Champions, bagging BDT 100,000 in rewards. SINBAD N CO. – comprising of MD. Ahad Siddique, MD Asifur Rahman Asif, Mahammad Shish Ahsan, and Faiyaz Abrar – were the 1st runners-up, taking home BDT 60,000. Team Everest, which included Abdullah Al Faiaz, Noushin Nuri, and Wasif Mahmud, took home the prize of BDT 40,000 for becoming the 2nd runners-up.

For the final round, the competing teams were tasked with a case where the brand in question, despite promising superior quality and taste, needed help to navigate underwhelming sales trends. The contenders had to develop a pathway covering the appropriate touchpoints that would help enhance the brand equity, which would translate to higher sales through the distribution channels to be considered, allowing the brand to become the market leader.

Shafiqul Islam Tushar, the Chief Marketing Officer at Akij Bakers Ltd., Paromita Quarishi, the Head of Marketing at Perfetti van Melle, and Md. Khaled Hassan (Turjoy), Head of Primary Market Services at LankaBangla Investments Limited, were the judges for the grand finale. Md. Tanvir Alam Himel, Assistant Professor, Department of Marketing, an advisor for the club, also graced the event by making an appearance at the venue for the final.
