Pran, a leading agro-processing company, plans to invest an additional Tk 600 crore in its poultry business over the next two years to meet the rising demand for eggs and chicken in Bangladesh stated in a report.

The investment will include the establishment of four advanced egg farms in Noakhali, Shariatpur, Chittagong, and Mymensingh, with a combined daily production capacity of 20 lakh eggs. Currently, Pran’s poultry farm in Chunarughat, Habiganj, produces 5 lakh eggs daily.

Of the total investment, Tk 400 crore will be allocated to these egg farms, while Tk 200 crore will support poultry breeding and broiler meat production. Land acquisition for the farms is underway, with breeder farms expected to begin chick production this year and broiler farms set to start meat production next year.

Bangladesh’s daily egg consumption is around 4.5 crore, with 80% supplied by small farmers. Large corporations like Pran, leveraging economies of scale, can produce eggs and meat at significantly lower costs.

Pran’s automated egg production facilities ensure year-round production, addressing supply shortages during extreme weather conditions. This technology-driven approach also supports the company’s goal of increasing efficiency and consistency.

Projections show that per capita egg consumption in Bangladesh will rise from 135 to 160 by 2030, reflecting the growing demand. Pran’s initiatives are expected to create nearly 2,000 jobs, further strengthening its position in the poultry sector.
