The Padma Bridge is set to introduce an electronic toll payment system, eliminating the need for cash transactions and enabling a fully automated and digital process. This initiative is expected to enhance efficiency, reduce travel time, and ensure greater transparency in toll collection stated in a report.

The Bangladesh Bridge Authority has officially selected mobile financial service provider Upay to implement the Electronic Toll Collection (ETC) system on the bridge. Following an extensive evaluation of various service providers, Upay was chosen for its advanced technology and ability to facilitate seamless digital transactions.

The transition to electronic toll payments aims to modernize the toll management system, aligning with the country’s broader push toward digital financial services. Officials have highlighted the benefits of this initiative, emphasizing that once operational, it will significantly improve traffic flow, reduce congestion, and enhance the overall management of the bridge.

Upay representatives have assured that their system will enable quick and secure toll payments through mobile apps and other digital platforms. This will provide drivers with a hassle-free experience, eliminating the delays associated with cash transactions.

The implementation of electronic toll payment on Padma Bridge follows Upay’s successful deployment of similar systems at several other toll plazas across the country. Locations where digital toll payments are already in operation include Bhanga Toll Plaza, Dhaleshwari Toll Plaza, Meghna Bridge, Gomti Bridge, Charsindur Bridge, Karnaphuli Bridge, Madhumati Bridge, Bhairab Bridge, Ashuganj Bridge, and Hanif Flyover.

Authorities believe that this initiative will mark a significant step toward a more modern, technology-driven toll collection system, reinforcing Bangladesh’s commitment to digital transformation in infrastructure management.
