This Eid-ul-Fitr, Bangladesh Bank has decided to put a pause on the tradition of exchanging fresh banknotes. In a directive issued on Sunday, the central bank (Bangladesh Bank) instructed all scheduled banks to withhold the distribution of new notes and instead rely on recirculated currency for all cash transactions, reportedly.

According to Bangladesh Bank spokesperson Arif Hossain Khan, newly designed banknotes are set to be introduced between April and May. As a result, the circulation of the existing design is being phased out, leading to the temporary suspension of fresh note exchanges.

For those hoping to get crisp, new notes for Eid celebrations, it looks like they’ll have to wait a little longer.
