Inflation Eases In December But Remains Above 10% in Bangladesh1 min read

Inflation eased slightly in December but remained above 10 percent for the second consecutive month, continuing to strain the budgets of low and fixed-income households of Bangladesh stated in a report.

According to data from the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS), the Consumer Price Index (CPI), which tracks changes in the prices of a basket of goods and services, fell to 10.89 percent in December, down from 11.38 percent in November.

The decrease was primarily driven by stable food prices, supported by the availability of winter vegetables. Food inflation dropped to 12.92 percent in December from 13.80 percent in the previous month. Similarly, non-food inflation dipped slightly to 9.26 percent in December, compared to 9.39 percent in November.

Bangladesh has been grappling with persistent inflation for over two years, despite multiple measures implemented by the authorities. The annual average inflation rose to 10.22 percent in November, up from 10.05 percent in October, as reported by the Bangladesh Bank.
