Shahida Khanam has worked in BRAC Bank’s retail sales team for nearly six years. She learned the bank’s products and services well and became one of the top performers while balancing family life.

“BRAC Bank trains women in specific skills and ensures a safe work environment. Our performance shows their support,” Shahida says.

Konika Akhter, another sales officer, says the bank’s strong reputation helps her work.

“Customers trust BRAC Bank as one of the safest banks in the country. That trust makes it easier for us to serve them,” she explains.

At least 200 women now lead BRAC Bank’s Retail and SME sales. Industry sources say BRAC Bank has one of the largest sales forces among both state-owned and private commercial banks in Bangladesh

A Team Effort Behind Extraordinary Performance

Members of the women’s sales team point to a culture of cooperation as a key driver of success.

Umme Habiba, who has 12 years in the SME sales team, says a safe, supportive workplace matters more to many women than a high salary.

“I took maternity leave soon after joining,” Habiba recalls. “My supervisors treated it as normal and supported me through my pregnancy. The bank’s daycare also helped me manage work and motherhood.” She adds that regular recognition and flexible work management keep the job from feeling burdensome.

Jebin Akhter Mousumi from Retail highlights how technology has reduced physical barriers.

“BRAC Bank leads in digital services, so we can serve customers remotely. That opens many opportunities for women,” Mousumi says.

Jannatul Ferdous, also in the team, credits cross-department support and accessible senior leaders.

“We can ask any department for help, and senior leaders stay connected with us. That encouragement matters a lot,” she says.

Senior leaders attribute unique work culture to women’s success

Md. Mahiul Islam, Deputy Managing Director and Head of Retail Banking, says focus and efficiency help these women stand out.

“Many female colleagues aim to finish work within office hours so they can spend time with their children. That drive for efficiency raises overall performance,” he says. He adds the bank provides dedicated transport for safety and runs internal women forum ‘TARA,’ where women can report concerns at workplace.

Syed Abdul Momen, Additional Managing Director and Head of SME Banking, highlights women’s communication strengths. “Women build trust easily. They act as financial advisers, solving customers’ personal and business problems. We sharpen these skills with customised training,” he says.

Looking ahead, Managing Director and CEO Tareq Refat Ullah Khan says, “Our long-term goal is to develop women into skilled professionals. With a safe environment, quality training, and real support, our female sales team delivers strong results. We plan to hire more women in the future.”
