In a historic move, Alphabet (NASDAQ: GOOG) (NASDAQ: GOOGL) has announced by its biggest acquisition ever, striking a $32 billion deal to acquire cybersecurity startup Wiz. This staggering price tag almost equals what Google has spent on its top 10 previous acquisitions – combined reportedly.
Before this, Google’s largest purchase was Motorola Mobility for $12.5 billion in 2011. However, that deal ultimately didn’t pay off – Google sold Motorola to Lenovo for just $2.91 billion in 2014.
With the Wiz acquisition, Google continues its long history of strategic takeovers, having spent billions on key companies since the early 2000s, starting with its 2006 purchase of YouTube for $1.65 billion.
