Google Launches “Black-Owned Friday” Initiative to Elevate and Support Black-Owned Businesses1 min read
Designed to redirect attention and spending towards smaller, local Black-owned brands during the bustling holiday shopping season, Google introduces “Black-Owned Friday” in its annual Black Friday campaign. This initiative, now in its fourth year, aims to spotlight and encourage consumer support for Black-owned businesses.
Developed in partnership with the U.S. Black Chambers, Inc., Google’s “Black-Owned Friday” initiative seeks to create awareness and foster patronage for Black-owned businesses. The dedicated mini-site accompanying the program showcases a curated selection of products from these enterprises. Adding a creative touch, actor Keke Palmer collaborates with Google on a reimagined music video featuring the 90s pop classic “100% Pure Love” by Crystal Waters.
The mini-site not only serves as a platform for discovering unique products but also offers a practical search tool to assist consumers in locating and supporting local Black-owned businesses. Beyond being a showcase, Google’s initiative provides valuable tips and insights to empower Black-owned brands in optimizing their seasonal promotions, potentially increasing their visibility and sales during the crucial holiday shopping period.
“Black-Owned Friday” strives to bring attention to smaller brands amid the usual frenzy of Black Friday, with Google aiming to redirect some of the shopping traffic towards these businesses. The initiative aligns with a broader goal of fostering inclusivity and diversity in the holiday shopping experience, offering consumers an opportunity to support a variety of businesses during the festive season.
As consumers gear up for Black Friday, Google’s initiative stands as a notable effort to elevate Black-owned businesses and contribute to a more inclusive and diverse retail landscape during the holiday season.
