Google Introduces ‘Canvas’ Feature to Gemini, Along with Audio Overview2 min read

They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, and Google seems to be taking notes. On Tuesday, the tech giant rolled out Canvas, a powerful new feature for its AI-driven Gemini chatbot. Much like OpenAI’s Canvas for ChatGPT and Anthropic’s Artifacts, this tool provides an interactive workspace where users can draft, refine, and collaborate on writing and coding projects, reportedly.

Dave Citron, Gemini’s product director, explained that Canvas is built to facilitate smooth collaboration with Gemini. He highlighted that the new features make Gemini an even more powerful tool for bringing ideas to life.

This move is part of a larger trend among AI firms to transform chatbots into full-fledged productivity hubs. Tools like Gemini Canvas, ChatGPT Canvas, and Artifacts are reshaping AI platforms, offering more control, real-time editing, and coding previews beyond just text-based interactions.

Now accessible via the Gemini prompt bar on web and mobile, Canvas allows users to:
Draft long-form content with Gemini and edit specific sections with ease.
Refine tone, length, and formatting using dedicated tools.
Preview and modify code – including HTML, React, and web app prototypes—with real-time updates.

Users can request live changes, and Canvas will automatically refresh previews, making it a game-changer for developers and content creators alike.

Audio Overview Joins the Party –

Alongside Canvas, Google is also integrating Audio Overview—a viral feature from NotebookLM – into Gemini. Audio Overview turns documents, web pages, and other content into realistic, podcast-style summaries, making information more digestible.

Now, when users upload a document via the prompt bar, an Audio Overview shortcut will appear, allowing them to generate, download, and share audio summaries directly from the Gemini app on web or mobile.

Both Canvas and Audio Overview are free for all Gemini users worldwide starting today. However, Canvas’ code preview feature is currently web-only, and Audio Overview is limited to English – for now.

With AI workspaces quickly evolving, it’s clear Google isn’t just keeping up—it’s pushing forward.
