Erste Group And Jung Von Matt Donau Share The Inspirational True Story Behind ‘Silent Night’2 min read
In a heartwarming and historically rich Christmas campaign, Erste Group, in collaboration with Jung von Matt Donau, tells the inspiring true story of Silent Night, the world’s most recorded song. The three-minute film, Silent Night, transports audiences back to the Austrian village of Oberndorf in 1818, where a young priest, Joseph Mohr, and his friend, music teacher Franz Xaver Gruber, created a song that would touch the hearts of millions across the globe. Born from a humble desire to bring warmth and hope to those suffering from poverty and hunger, Silent Night became a symbol of peace, transcending time and place.

Through a beautifully crafted narrative, the film highlights the profound impact this song has had on the world, from its first performance in a small rural church to its role in major historical moments. It chronicles milestones such as the 1822 performance for Emperor Franz I, the moving rendition during the 1914 World War I Christmas Truce, and its broadcast to the Skylab 4 Space Station in 1973. This extraordinary journey has made Silent Night not only a cherished Christmas carol but also the most recorded song in history, with over 130,000 versions in more than 300 languages.
