Denmark’s IFU Commits $12.5 Million To Expand AKS Khan Pharmaceuticals2 min read
In a significant boost to healthcare infrastructure in Bangladesh, Denmark’s Investment Fund for Developing Countries (IFU) has pledged $12.5 million to AKS Khan Pharmaceuticals. The investment aims to expand the pharmacy chain’s network, enabling it to serve 8 million patients annually within the next three years reportedly.
The agreement was formalized during a ceremony at the Radisson Blu Water Garden Hotel in Dhaka. AK Shamsuddin Khan, Director of AK Khan & Company Limited, and Lars Bo Bertram, CEO of the IFU, signed the deal.
The expansion plan is spearheaded by Samanzar S Khan, Managing Director of AKS Khan Holdings. The company aims to establish a network of 100 pharmacies and diagnostic centers, marking a significant leap from its current reach of 1.5 million patients per year.

They strive to deliver high-quality, genuine medicines to millions, ensuring effective treatment and enhancing the quality of life for individuals living with chronic illnesses throughout Bangladesh.
Christian Brix Møller, the Danish ambassador to Bangladesh, praised the initiative, describing it as a vote of confidence in Bangladesh’s progress during its transitional period and stated that the investment reflects trust in the interim government’s efforts and the country’s potential for sustained growth.
Since 1990, the IFU has invested €300 million in various Bangladeshi projects, including a fertilizer company and a water treatment facility in Dhaka. Lars Bo Bertram emphasized IFU’s focus on impact investments that foster economic and social development while delivering financial returns.
It is also expressed that the initiative underscores the commitment to making a tangible difference in the lives of millions while ensuring sustainable growth.
With this ambitious expansion, AKS Khan Pharmaceuticals is poised to transform healthcare accessibility in Bangladesh, reaffirming its role as a critical player in the nation’s healthcare ecosystem.
