Bangladesh Travel and Tourism Council launched1 min read

The Bangladesh Travel and Tourism Council (BTTC), a newly established think tank, has launched to build a network for professionals and businesses in the local travel, tourism, and hospitality industries, promoting collaboration and knowledge sharing.

The council held its inaugural meeting on Saturday at a hotel in Dhaka, presided over by Shahid Hamid FIH, acting managing director of Dhaka Regency Hotel. The meeting brought together industry leaders from airlines, travel, tourism, and hospitality.
A 15-member ad-hoc committee was formed, with Kazi Wahidul Alam, editor of The Bangladesh Monitor, appointed as its convenor. Other committee members include Shahid Hamid, Imran Asif (CEO, Air Astra), Akhteruzzaman Khan Kabir (ex-chairman, Bangladesh Parjatan Corporation), Mujib U Ahmed (professor, University of Dhaka), Rubina Hussain (managing director, Institute of Hotel Management), Asif Ahmed (acting general manager, Pan Pacific Sonargaon Dhaka), Shakawath Hossain (CEO, Unique Hotel and Resorts), and Rezwan Maruf (director of sales and marketing, InterContinental Dhaka).

Additional committee members are Faruq M Ahmed (travel writer), Basudev Bhattacharya (ex-principal, National Hotel and Tourism Training Institute), Ishtiaq Uddin Ahmad (ex-chief conservator of Forests), Masud Hossain (managing director, The Bengal Tours), Taufiq Rahman (CEO, Journey Plus), and Syed Ghulam Qadir (general manager, US Bangla Holidays).


A three-member subcommittee was also established to draft the council’s by-laws, which will be reviewed in the next general meeting on November 23.
