
Bangladesh to Import 40MW Electricity from Nepal for Five Months1 min read
Bangladesh is set to receive 40 megawatts (MW) of electricity from Nepal via India for five months, from June to November 2025, under a tripartite agreement signed between Bangladesh, Nepal, and India on October 3 last year reportedly.
The announcement was made during a courtesy meeting between Nepalese Ambassador to Bangladesh, Ghanshyam Bhandari, and Commerce Adviser Sk Bashir Uddin at the Secretariat today (23 February).
Discussions at the meeting covered bilateral trade, electricity supply, regional connectivity, and preparations for the upcoming Nepal Economic Summit.
Commerce Adviser Bashir Uddin underscored the importance of strengthening connectivity as a catalyst for economic growth in both nations. He reaffirmed Bangladesh’s commitment to long-term strategic partnerships, highlighting that expanding trade volumes would be mutually beneficial.

Ambassador Bhandari described Nepal’s relationship with Bangladesh as historic and exemplary, noting that Nepal imports agricultural products from Bangladesh. He also expressed optimism about increasing electricity exports to Bangladesh in the future.
During the meeting, Ambassador Bhandari presented an official invitation to Commerce Adviser Bashir Uddin for the upcoming Nepal Economic Summit.
Commerce Secretary (Routine Duty) Md Abdur Rahim Khan and Additional Secretary (FTA) Ayesha Akhter, along with other officials, were also present at the meeting.
