Global water technology leader AO Smith Corporation has acquired Pureit, a water purification business from Unilever PLC, expanding its footprint in South Asia, including Bangladesh. This strategic acquisition strengthens AO Smith’s premium water treatment offerings and distribution reach across key markets.
Based in Wisconsin, USA, AO Smith finalized the $120 million cash acquisition of Pureit nearly four months after the agreement was initially signed, with adjustments as customary. According to AO Smith, Pureit generates approximately $60 million in annual sales, primarily from India.
Launched in 2004 in Chennai, India, Pureit began with a mission to provide accessible, safe drinking water to South Asia’s rapidly growing population. Today, it operates across several major markets, including India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, and Mexico, offering a wide range of devices, filters, and spare parts for residential water purification.
