Samsung and AMD partners up to produce Exynos mobile chip1 min read

The next flagship Samsung smartphones are about to get a GPU upgrade as Samsung and AMD are reportedly working on a RDNA 2 graphics technology for an Exynos mobile system-on-chip.

Exynos is the brand name Samsung uses for its own in-house processors. Samsung’s flagship galaxy phones shipped to the United States and certain other markets are equipped with the Snapdragon SoCs from Qualcomm while the rest of the world gets the Exynos chips.

Further details about the chip and the phones it’ll be integrated into are still undeclared. As per reports by AMD, the GPU will use AMD’s RDNA 2 architecture, enabling features like ray tracing and variable rate shading.

Samsung will add more information regarding the chip later in 2021.
