Mahtab Uddin Ahmed to Leave Robi3 min read
Mahtab Uddin Ahmed- the first homegrown MD and CEO of Robi Axiata Ltd is about to leave the company after his contract expiration on October 31, 2021. He confirmed the news through his official Facebook page this morning. In his statement, Mr. Mahtab has stated his intention to give time to his family as the prime reason behind such a decision.
After taking charge from Supun Weerasinghe, the former CEO of Robi in 2016, Mr. Mahtab has helped Robi to achieve numerous heights that made Robi proudly claim itself as the second-largest player in the market with exponential growth. E.g., Robi IPO, The Robi- Airtel merger, leading in 4G roll-out, non-CCD strategy, excelling in dual-brand strategy, etc.
Here’s the Facebook post through which Mahtab Uddin Ahmed has announced his departure:
With a heavy heart, I would like to share with you that I have decided not to renew my contract with Axiata which is due to expire on 31st October 2021, till which time I will be on official leave as I am in Australia at present. Every great journey comes to end; and my glorious journey with Robi has come to an end too! Despite being an introvert, I feel that my relationship with each one of you (Robi family, stakeholders, regulators, Robi customers etc.) is from the heart or way beyond our professional connection. While I enjoyed working and being with you all in Bangladesh, I have also been away from my family for the last six years. Now I would like to give them a turn to spend more time with me while I figure out my next course of action!
Allah has been very kind to me in the 30+ years of my career! During this period, I worked for great companies, great people and stakeholders to create a mark. I truly believe that the Robi family is the key source of the company's outstanding performance and they have proved that repeatedly in the last five years. Together, we have brought Robi from its low end to a respectable position by the superb Airtel-Robi merger/integration, leading in 4G roll-out, Non-CCD strategy, Dual-Brand strategy. While parting from Robi, I must thank Axiata and Robi for giving me the opportunity to develop and grow to what I am today. In this great journey, two persons contributed immensely – Tan Sri Jamal and Michael Kluehner! One has to be lucky to work with such leaders!
It is good that the parting is taking place from a distance otherwise I would be dehydrated from all the tears shed, lol! Please pray for me and my family to make this transition easy.
Who’s going to take charge of Robi after the end of an extraordinary tenure of Mr. Mahtab is still unknown. Having said that, we, the Markedium family wish Mr. Mahtab all the very best for his next phase of life.
