Instagram adds new label for black-owned businesses1 min read

Instagram has introduced a special new e-commerce feature for its platform that allows black-owned brands to add a label indicating diversity. The label will add and highlight black-owned businesses profiles in the Shop tab and curated product collections

According to reports by Instagram, there were over 1.3 million posts supporting “black owned” or “black led” businesses as well as a 50% increase in “black owned” or “black-led” marked in bios.

The label will enable products to be highlighted in the curated collections in the Shop tab, eventually enabling more people to discover black-owned brands. Businesses will also have access to moderation tools that help them handle spam, offensive language, and inappropriate comments.

The new “Business Diversity Info” on profiles indicates that Instagram may introduce more labels to support other various communities in the platform.
