Grameenphone’s Revenue Increased Due to Bundle Services Growth in Q3’20211 min read

Grameenphone the largest telecom company in Bangladesh has recently posted its Q3 (Jul-Sep) financial report for the year 2021. Revenue of the company increased by 1.8% YoY to Tk 36,209 Mn in Q3’21 from Tk 35,559 Mn in Q3’20. The growth in revenue is mainly driven by 1.9% YoY growth in subscription & traffic revenues. Profit after tax declined by 3.8% YoY.

1.9% YoY subscription & traffic revenue growth was mainly driven by growth in voice/data bundles & data-only packs. Grameenphone continues its focus on promoting bundle services in Q3’21 to provide better customer value with an enhanced experience. The focus on bundle has paid off successfully for the telecom giant as revenue from bundle services increased by 10x from Q3’20 and by 1.6x from Q2’21.

Average Revenue per User (ARPU) declined by 6.1% YoY from Tk 153 in Q3’20 to Tk 144 in Q3’21. Average minutes per User (AMPU) continues its declining trend by declining 7.1% YoY. The continued rise of OTT services usage like Whatsapp, IMO, messenger, etc is driving the declining trend of AMPU.

Mobile Subscribers

Mobile subscribers of the company have grown by 7.7% YoY from 77.6 million in Q3’20 to 83.6 million in Q3’21. About 55.2% of the total subscribers are internet subscribers. Internet subscribers have grown from 42.0 million in Q3’20 to 46.1 million in Q3’21.

Data Revenue

Data revenue increased by 4.6% YoY mainly due to a 9.8% growth in internet subscribers. Internet consumption per user has increased by 50.5% YoY. MB per subscriber was 3,849 MB in Q3’21 which was 2,557 MB in Q3’20.

Future Ahead

Grameenphone’s focus on bundle packages clearly shows its intention to grow in the data segment since the usage of OTT services like WhatsApp, IMO, Messenger is taking away revenue from the voice segment. Hence 25.1% contribution of data on total revenue is expected to grow in the coming quarters.
