GRAMEENPHONE’S PROFIT INCREASED BY 17.1% DRIVEN BY DATA AND VOICE SEGMENT2 min read

Grameenphone the largest telecom company in Bangladesh has recently its Q2 (Apr-Jun) financial report for the year 2021. Revenue of the company in Q2’21 was Tk 35,763 million compared to Tk 33,069 million in Q2’20. Revenue increased by 8.1 % YoY mainly driven by 8.5% growth in subscription & traffic revenue. Data revenue increased by 3.6% YoY driven by a 2.8 million YoY increase in internet subscribers. Profit after tax in Q2’21 grew by 17.1% YoY.

The 8.5% YoY growth in subscription and traffic revenue was mainly driven by growth in bundle, data, and voice revenue. The company’s continued focus on data and voice has driven the growth in bundle products in the second quarter. Revenue from bundled products was Tk 2,600 million which is 6 times larger than the same period last year.

Mobile Subscribers


Mobile subscribers of the company have grown by 10.1% YoY from 74.5 million in Q2’20 to 82.0 million in Q2’21. About 53.3% of the total subscribers are internet subscribers. Internet subscribers have grown from 40.9 million in Q2’20 to 43.7 million in Q2’21.

Data Revenue


Data revenue increased by 3.6% YoY mainly due to a 6.8% growth in internet subscribers. Internet consumption per user has increased by 39.7% YoY. MB per subscriber was 3,609 MB in Q2’21 which was 2,583 MB in Q2’20.

Future Ahead


Grameenphone’s focus on bundle packages clearly shows its intention to grow in the data segment since the usage of OTT services like WhatsApp, Imo is taking away revenue from the voice segment. Hence 24.3% contribution of data on total revenue is expected to grow in the coming quarters.
