Dr. Rumman Chowdhury, a distinguished data scientist of Bangladeshi origin and CEO & co-founder of Humane Intelligence, has earned a place of honor in TIME magazine’s prestigious TIME 100 AI list. Dr. Chowdhury’s academic focus has primarily centered on the intersection of data science and social science. She specializes in unveiling human biases through data and assessing the societal impacts of technology. Her work has been instrumental in the emerging field of applied algorithmic ethics, which grapples with the ethical implications of AI and machine learning technologies. A pivotal moment in Dr. Chowdhury’s career was her role as the Director of Engineering for Twitter’s Machine Learning Ethics, Transparency, and Accountability (META) team, a position she held from February 2021 to November 2022. During her tenure, she tirelessly worked to align Twitter’s AI algorithms with strict ethical guidelines, ensuring a more responsible and transparent platform.
