Tesla announced the recall of approximately 239,000 vehicles due to a problem that may cause the rear-view camera to fail to display an image. The issue, which can be resolved through an over-the-air software update, stems from a potential reverse current during vehicle startup. This could lead to a short circuit on the car’s computer board, rendering the rear-view camera inoperative stated in a report.

The affected models include 2024-25 Model 3 and Model S vehicles and 2023-25 Model X and Model Y. Tesla has committed to identifying vehicles with circuit board issues and replacing the car’s computer free of charge.

The automaker launched an investigation in November after noticing an increase in car computer replacements linked to short circuit issues. Findings revealed that certain software and hardware configurations, combined with colder temperatures, could increase reverse current, leading to power component shorts.

Additionally, Tesla implemented a new car computer variant for Model 3, Model S, and Model X vehicles produced after December 16 to address the issue.

Tesla continues to lead in recalls in the U.S., with 5.1 million vehicles affected. However, all issues have been addressable via software updates. Industry reports indicate a rise in electrical system recalls, affecting 6.3 million vehicles in 2024, driven by advanced vehicle technologies.
