YouTube to Allow Channels Granting 10 Complimentary Subscriptions Monthly2 min read
To support content creators during the holiday season, YouTube has rolled out a new program allowing eligible creators to gift 10 subscriptions per month to their audience at no cost. This initiative aims to assist creators in boosting their channel subscriber counts and converting trial subscribers into paying members.
As reported, under this program, creators with channel memberships enabled on their channels receive 10 free memberships at the beginning of each month. This allows them to gift these memberships to their viewers, providing a one-month preview of exclusive perks such as custom emojis and members-only content. YouTube intends for this trial period to entice viewers to become fully-fledged paying members, kick-starting the member acquisition process.
Crucially, the free memberships are limited to a one-month duration and are not equivalent to an annual subscription. This deliberate strategy seeks to act as a compelling incentive for viewers to consider supporting the creators’ channels through paid memberships.
Reportedly, the program is exclusively available to channels offering a membership tier below $5, making it particularly relevant for newer or lower-end channels seeking to generate interest and attract subscribers. This targeted approach aligns with YouTube’s goal to support creators at various stages of their journey and spark engagement among diverse content creators.
Eligible creators can distribute the 10 free memberships per month during live streams or Premieres. YouTube has outlined a simple process involving the use of the “$” icon within the live chat, allowing creators to select “Membership gifting” and easily gift memberships in bundles of 5, twice a month.
The undistributed gift memberships do not roll over to the following month, resetting on the 1st of every month. As we enter the season of giving, this initiative serves as a valuable offering for creators to enhance their channel memberships and foster a sense of community during the festive period.
