The number of transactions through debit cards in Bangladesh saw a significant rise to Tk 390,149.6 million in May 2023. The growth is aligned with the shift in consumer behavior who are now using debit and credit cards more for purchase instead of using cash & cheques. The amount was 2.34 times higher compared to May 2019.
The number of debit card issuance has seen 4 consecutive YoY double-digit growths in May 2023. The number of debit cards increased by 1.3% compared to April 2023.

The number of transactions continues its gradual growth which is aligned with the shift of consumer purchasing behavior. However, transactions decreased by 11.2% compared to April 2023. Transactions increased by 1.93 times compared to May 2019.
The amount of transactions continues its consecutive double-digit growth. The average amount per transaction increased to Tk 9,467.7 in May 2023 which was Tk 8,925.7 in May 2022. The average amount was Tk 7,786.0 in May 2019.
