In a striking surge of mobile connectivity, Bangladesh witnessed a remarkable growth in its mobile subscriber base during the month of August. Recent data from the Bangladesh Telecommunication and Regulatory Commission (BTRC) reveals that approximately 1.16 million new customers joined the mobile network, signifying a substantial monthly leap. Simultaneously, the number of mobile internet subscribers surged by a staggering 1 million during the same period.

The comprehensive data for August disclosed that the total number of SIM card subscribers reached a notable 188.64 million, marking a significant increase from the previous month’s 187.48 million. This surge in mobile users was primarily fueled by leading telecom operators such as Grameenphone, Robi Axiata, and Banglalink.

Conversely, the state-owned Teletalk experienced a decline in its customer base.

Grameenphone, holding the title of the country’s largest network operator, attracted approximately 250,000 new subscribers in August, achieving a remarkable total of 82.14 million users.

Meanwhile, Robi, the second-largest operator, outperformed its peers by adding more than half a million subscribers, bringing its customer count to an impressive 57.33 million.

Banglalink, the third-largest player in the market, also contributed significantly to this growth, with approximately 423,000 new customers in August, pushing its total to 42.72 million.

In contrast, the government-owned Teletalk observed a decline of approximately 20,000 customers during that time.

In terms of internet usage, the total number of users reached an astonishing 131.94 million, encompassing both Internet Service Provider (ISP) and Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) users. This data underscores Bangladesh’s escalating appetite for digital connectivity and the continuous expansion of its telecom landscape.
